Producing More Greenhouse Gases Than Climate Agreements Block

The American Interest posting of “A Manufactured ‘Success’ in Paris” reviews the fact that the Paris meeting agreement fails to accomplish what the greens had hoped for and in fact may even set back the movement. For example, the money fund part of the agreement does not mention the number $100billion and as we know, there are no mechanisms to make the developed countries actually produce this kind of money. The authors of the posting, Walter Russell Mead and Jamie Horgan suggest that could produce a set back:

Developing countries can and will excuse their inaction by pointing to the absence of that $100 billion slush fund, and, in any case, the governments of many developing country are surprisingly indifferent to the views of first-world NGO scolds.”

Read the complete posting because it lays out the Paris agreement ‘s lack of real success and some thought on the future of their effort.

I really liked the authors’ views when they said this:

There will no doubt be many follow-ups, jet-setting conferences in many more attractive destinations, and climate diplomacy will continue to produce more greenhouse gasses than climate agreements block.”

We have been saying that for some long time. There were, by some estimates, around 40,000 people attending this conference.   When they begin to do their meetings using Skype, I will take them more seriously.

Secretary Kerry Says Climate Agreement Is Unenforceable

Secretary of State John Kerry hailed the Paris climate agreement as “a victory for all of the planet and for future generationsaccording to the Washington Examiner posting “Kerry says Paris agreement crafted to avoid Congress”.

How did he avoid the US Congress?

Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday the climate agreement reached this week in Paris did not contain any enforcement provisions because Congress would not have approved them.

“It doesn’t have mandatory targets for reduction and it doesn’t have an enforcement, compliance mechanism,” Kerry said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Binding legal requirements would have made the Paris agreement a treaty, requiring approval from two-thirds of the Senate. Because no climate change measure could close to the high bar in the chamber, the Paris deal was written to avoid it.”

Nice work Secretary Kerry. An unenforceable climate agreement is going to save the planet.  Actually being unenforceable is probably a victory for the planet, but not in the same sense that Kerry is claiming.   Unenforceable provides hope for the poor.  Fossil fuel electrical power plants may now be in their future.

The Secretary has crafted another unenforceable agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program.   In just one year, the Secretary has crafted two unenforceable victories for the planet. Certainly this is some kind of distinction.

Fortunately, The Paris Climate Talks Appear To Have Failed

The bluster emanating from the Paris climate talks challenges the Potemkin Villages as the biggest attempted cover-up of the real facts on the ground in history. The agreement produced only voluntary caps on CO2 emissions; only voluntary transfers (reparations really) of money from the 1st world to the 3rd world); and reporting of emissions and international oversight do not exist. Further more, neither China or India will cut back their expected increase in CO2 emissions as they plan to serve their citizens first.
The Paris climate leadership acknowledged that even if the emission cuts would take place as promised, their arbitrary goal of holding the global temperature rise under 2C would not be achieved. President Obama flew a 500+ army to Paris. All they accomplished was to spend our money and a lot of CO2 emisssions.

The President, however, will claim he must have the money to pay reparations to the 3rd world countries and laws enacted to shut-down our industry to reduce CO2 emission. The science is not settled. Why wreck our economy and put our people out of work when there has been no significant rise in global temperatures for almost 19 years and polar ice is increasing.

A Complete List Of Things Caused By Global Warming

Many religions have a devil that is the source of all evil. The Church of Catastrophic Global Warming (CCGW) has devils and they are the human race with the exception of Al Gore, and his fellow travelers, of course. And those global-warming-vector-172887devils wield a terrible power—global warming which is the cause of all things evil. For example, President Obama (1) (2), the previously named Al Gore (3), Prince Charles (4), Bernie Sanders (5) and others have told us that, directly or indirectly, global warming is causing the terrorism and unrest in the world. And that it will get worse. Unless, and for sure, the enlightened are allowed to lead us away from our wicked path.

Fortunately, our President struck a powerful blow to the terrorist in Paris by the mere fact that a COP 21 meeting was convened. And that meeting is said to be the last chance to prevent the terrorist from taking over.

COP 21 President Obama Wants Money To Pay Reparations

What will come from the COP21?   An agreement? Perhaps,  but what will it amount to?   President Obama wants to commit the US to a combination of gwbiggestthreatCartoon54reduced CO2 emissions and billions of dollars for reparation (wealth redistribution plan) payments. The US Congress has said they wont approve any money expenditure for reparations unless they have a treaty to vote on. A treaty would require approval of 67 members of the Senate voting in favor of the treaty, so this probably means there wont be any money. Congress has signaled both the President and the rest of the world that will not be spending any money. Obama and his crew know a treaty would not make it through the Senate so they have been trying to come up with some other scheme that will not require the Senate’s approval. Obama has promised to make a $3billion down payment to the UN’s Green Climate Fund at the COP21 meeting.

He and the Congressional Democrats could try to force Congress to give the money to the UN by threatening a Government Shutdown. This has worked in the past, but I doubt that global warming is a winning issue with the voters. The most recent poll by Fox News shows that only 3% believe that global warming is something they need to worry about. This result is consistent would other news organizations polling.

COP 21 Pope Francis’ Encyclical Is Of Little Help For The Poor

The UN Conference of Parties annual Climate Action Meeting Scheduled to begin on 30 November in Paris has the objective of preventing global temperature from rising as a direct result of carbon dioxide ((CO2) emissions. One would think the science supporting the contention that CO2 would be center stage, but it wont. Instead, the real drivers of this movement are politics and culture.

Perhaps Pope Francis’ recent Encyclical “Laudado Si” would be a good way to begin. While the Encyclical covered a range of topics, the part that dealt with the supposed threat of global warming drew the most attention. Despite the Pope having repeatedly said that discussion with all parties is necessary to find the proper solutions not a single skeptical scientist was allowed to participate. His advisors, with or without the Pope’s knowledge, made a conscious decision to exclude skeptical scientists. The Pope’s advisors however, did included in the discussion,  atheists, anti-capitalists, population limiting advocates, scientists with works so poor the even their fellow warmers have reputiated them and others that believe skeptics should be imprisoned.

The “books were cooked” so to speak. The conclusions, foregone.

COP 21 “…make-or-break Paris conference on climate change”

Beginning 30 November through 11 December, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) will hold the 21st Conference of Parties (COP 21) in COP21imagesParis. As usual this one like the preceding annual COP meeting is being described as the last chance to save planet Earth from the ravages of carbon dioxide (CO2).

COP attendees from all over the world will attempt, once again, to agree on the reduction of the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere and settle on compensation payments to the 3rd world countries that have emitted little CO2. Each of the 146 nations that emit 90% of the global CO2 emissions are being asked to submit the amount of CO2 emissions they will reduce by 2030 based away from the amount emitted in 2005 by that nation. They believe this is necessary to keep global temperature growth to two degrees Celsius.

The compensation side is contentious as those getting the compensation want more than those expected to provide it are willing to part with. For example, India says they will reduce their emissions by 33 to 35% but they need $2.5 trillion to accomplish that goal. Even China, the world’s largest emitter of CO2 is one of the nations expecting compensation.   What a deal—-they have recently achieved an agreement with President Obama that lets them continue increasing their emissions until 2030 at which time their emissions should be three times those of the US.

Of course the concept of emission reductions and compensation that the COP wishes to accomplish ignores the data that shows that this is probably not necessary.   CO2 is the life blood of the plant world. Without it there would be no plant life and that means of the end of humankind. Studies show that the increased CO2 in the atmosphere have had a beneficial effect on food production world-wide.   Further the CO2 effect on the global temperatures appears to be secondary to natural forces.  And fossil fuel use by the underpowered nations is a better answer to their needs than sending compensation to some dictator who will just pocket it and the people will receive no benefit.  Subsequent postings will enlarge on these observations.

“ Average Global Temperature”? Do You Know What It Represents?

The warmers are saying that we cannot let the global temperature increase by more than 2ºC. According to them, really bad things will happen if we exceed that number. The 2ºC must be another of those “tipping points” that we have heard so much of in recent years. Most all of which have come and gone with out any noticeable effect.

What is the global temperature? You almost never hear it expressed like a typical temperature reading you get each day from the weather stations.   The only place I can find a description stated as a typical temperature reading is from the World Meteorological Organization saying that the average global temperature, between 1961 and 1990, was 14ºC (57.2ºF). But I find nothing more recent. One reason is that an agreement around a specific temperature is difficult to come by.

At the South Pole, the highest temperature ever recorded was 12.3º C (9.9ºF).  Singapore’s record low was 19.4ºC (66.9ºF). So where is the average?   An average global temperature does not exist in the real world.  I will discuss near the end of this posting.

Anomalies are used instead.  A long-term average is used for reference and the tempanomaliestemperature differences from that are termed anomalies.   Positive anomalies and negative anomalies are increases or decreases, respectively, from this long-term reference. Further these changes are very small. If you made a chart plotting a series of numbers of slowly warming normal temperature readings say:14.0ºC, 14. 01ºC, 14.01ºC, 14.02ºC, 14.02ºC, 14.03ºC,  you probably would not be able to visibly detect any change.   How frightening would that be?  Everything looks more dramatic when you plot the anomalies (0.01, 0.02, 0.o2, etc.).

Pope Francis Is Poorly Informed About Global Warming

For centuries, the “consensus science” stated the Earth was the center of the universe. In 1610 the skeptic, Galileo Galilei, publicly disagreed saying the Earth revolved around the Sun rather than the other way. The Catholic Church leaders called this a fallacy.  Galileo published his theory in 1632 and was found guilty of heresy and placed under house arrest where he remained until his death 9 years later. It now looks like the Church is about to make the same mistake of picking sides concerning the controversial scientific theory of catastrophic man-made global warming (CAGW). It is said that Pope Francis will issue an Encyclical saying that World should support the United Nations plan to eliminate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. It doesn’t make sense.
