America, We Have a Problem

This is a reblog of a WattsUpWithThat posting. It is a good summary of the reasons to be skeptical of the catastrophic man-made global warming theory and a good rebuke of Senator Markey D-Mass.

What If America Can’t Stop Climate Change?

Dr Judith Curry is a top-notch researcher who is considered a lukewarmer by 140px-Curry_2006_200dpiAnthony Watts, owner of the WattsUpWithThat blog. Meaning she is not a hard-core believer in either the church of global warming or having a level of deep skepticism.   She was once believed that man was the cause of the global warming but more research convinced her that there are too many uncertainties in forecasting future climate. Whether she is a lukewarmer or a skeptic is an open question.  Her blog, Climate Etc. is reported to get about 12,000 hits per day, demonstrating that she is very influential.

Curry recently posted “Carly Fiorina hits the ‘sweet spot’ on Climate, Etc”. From that posting she says:

“In the political battles over climate change, there are three distinct and relevant questions:

  • First, does mankind have a material effect on the Earth’s climate?
  • Second, if mankind does impact the climate, is that impact harmful?
  • And third, if we assume that mankind is harming the environment, will any given American policy or collection of policies have a meaningful beneficial impact?

The Hood Robin Syndrome

I am reblogging this WUWT posting by Willis Eschenbach. I could not have defined this better than he does in his posting “The Hood Robin Syndrome”. I have long argued that the science is really not primary issue. Rather it is politics where “follow the money” is an excellent guideline. These people like to tax and regulate. And of course there are those that founded this movement that want badly to replace capitalism by socialism (or in many cases—communism).

Ps I am back from vacation, visiting relatives and catching up on honey-dos. Hope to be much more active with my blogging as these and other issues are resolved.

Have Fossil Fuels Diminished the World’s Sustainability and Resilience?

The GWSF posted Indur M Goklany’s “The Pontifical Academies’ Broken Moral Compass”. This essay was written as a refutation of the climate change section of Pope Francis’s Encyclical. Goklany’s response is some 19 pages long and may be the best illustration of why we do not believe in catastrophic man-made global warming. I recommend that you read it. It can be read by clicking on http://www.thegwpf.org/content/uploads/2015/06/Vatican-compass.pdf

Goklany posted a summary of his essay on the WUWT blog. I am reblogging the WUWT posting.

Religious leaders should stop bleating about global warming

I am rebloging WUWT posting of Grant Goldman’s “Religious leaders should stop bleating about global warming.” Goldman begins by citing major atrocities that religious leaders did not demand governments have strong responses to the perpetrators but inexplicably demand strong action to prevent “man-made global warming.” Goldman also discusses coal’s benefits to humanity. He also says preventing the world’s poorest people to have access to coal, is a terrible crime.

Friday Funny – the horror of rising sea levels in context

What can you say about a President that maintains that “global warming” is the greatest threat in the world today? The cartoon that accompanies this WUWT posting is better than any words I can put together.

Told ya so: new paper proves that coral atolls keep up with sea level rise

I am rebloging a 12 May posting on WattsUpWithThat(WUWT) titled “Told ya so: New paper proves that coral atolls keep up with sea level rise.” The alarmists thought they had a great cause–more island people losing their ancestral home to fossil fuels. One of the atolls actually sued the Czech Republic saying that their burning of coal would be the cause of the loss of their atoll. Anthony Watts has been tell us that for more than ten years the alarmist were not right. Of interest, Watts points out the reasoning that the atolls keep up with the rise in sea level originated with Charles Darwin. The posting includes the abstract of a recent study about the atolls and sea level. In addition, reading the several publications on WUWT by Watts and several others provide the science behind the atolls survival for thousands of years of sea level rise.

Now For Something Entirely Different

VOX.com has a page with “40 maps that explain the universe”. Photos and drawing plus text are there for your review. Some of the illustrations are really eye catching. For example:

Even a single comet is pretty darn big

This is the comet 67P/C-G — which the Philae probe landed on in November 2014 — superimposed on Los Angeles. In terms of space, the comet is absolutely tiny: just 3.5 miles wide.
