The UK Gets It, The US Doesn’t–Teaching AGW In Schools

In Great Britain, it is being recommended that the advocacy of man-made global warming be cut from the national curriculum for children 13 and under (see here).  In the US,  teaching of AGW has been recommended for all grades and in every science class. The following  is an overview of this plan and those that have developed it according to a posting on 4 March 2013:
“The Next Generation Science Standards were developed by the National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the nonprofit Achieve and more than two dozen states. They recommend that educators teach the evidence for man-made climate change starting as early as elementary school and incorporate it into all science classes, ranging from earth science to chemistry. By eighth grade, students should understand that “human activities, such as the release of greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels, are major factors in the current rise in Earth’s mean surface temperature (global warming),” the standards say.”
If there ever was a time in the past 25 years or so to show why the above rationale for CO2 forced global warming is irrational, it is now, after 16 years of no global warming. Yet these alarmists refuse to accept the data–rather they chose to believe computer model predictions.  Note the  laughable comment in the press release where they say they are going to “teach the evidence for man-made climate change”.  Lets look at the chart prepared by the UK’s Mail Online from their 16 March posting titled “The Great Green Con no. 1: The hard proof that finally shows global warming forecasts that are costing you billions were WRONG all along”:
Here is the Mail commentary about the chart:
Steadily climbing orange and red bands on the graph show the computer predictions of world temperatures used by the official United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The estimates – given with 75 per cent and 95 per cent certainty – suggest only a five per cent chance of the real temperature falling outside both bands.
But when the latest official global temperature figures from the Met Office are placed over the predictions, they show how wrong the estimates have been, to the point of falling out of the ‘95 per cent’ band completely.
The graph shows in incontrovertible detail how the speed of global warming has been massively overestimated. Yet those forecasts have had a ruinous impact on the bills we pay, from heating to car fuel to huge sums paid by councils to reduce carbon emissions.
The eco-debate was, in effect, hijacked by false data. The forecasts have also forced jobs abroad as manufacturers relocate to places with no emissions targets.
A version of the graph appears in a leaked draft of the IPCC’s landmark Fifth Assessment Report due out later this year. It comes as leading climate scientists begin to admit that their worst fears about global warming will not be realised.
Those who belong to the  church of man-made global warming ignore the data and function on a mistaken faith in climate model forecasts which are clearly unable to project reality.

One response to “The UK Gets It, The US Doesn’t–Teaching AGW In Schools

  1. I do not believe that human caused global warming is a reality. Climate change has natural causes and in the past there have been changes both to a warmer world and a colder one. Ask any geologist. I am a climate change sceptic. I have firm evidence that I am right. There has been no significant change in global temperature over the last 17 years. Kind regards, David Currie
