Because the Earth is greening and the cereal crops are setting new records for production, one needs to ask why, especially since the catastrophic man-made global warming crowd have predicted that can’t happen. Drought, you know. Temperatures too high. Etc..
Yet NASA ‘s “Carbon Dioxide Fertilization Greening Earth, Study Finds” posted on 26 April 2016 states the following:
“From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.”
“The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.”
“Results showed that carbon dioxide fertilization explains 70 percent of the greening effect, said co-author Ranga Myneni, a professor in the Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University.”
Because they don’t want to be ostracized, their press release also adds the usual about how CO2 is in fact a bad thing. Further they say it CO2 levels can get too high and all this will stop.
Do the people that wrote this NASA report know that most greenhouses inject CO2 to very high levels?
“The Fifth Season Gardening Company’s posting “Managing CO2 in growing space” instructs:
“Additionally, there are benefits to raising the CO2 level higher than the global average, up to 1500 ppm. With CO2 maintained at this level, yields can be increased by as much as 30%!”
A posting by Life Site News tiled “Scientists say Pope Francis is misguided on “climate change” as environmental sin.” From that posting we get the following from Hal Doiron, PhD, retired NASA scientist:
“Plants, animals, and humans cannot co-exist on this planet without certain minimum levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, about 150 parts per million by volume (ppm). Plants grow much better with more CO2, while health concerns for humans only begin at breathing concentrations of 8000 ppm, more than 20 times the present level of 400 ppm in our atmosphere. The atmospheric CO2 concentration that might cause problems for the earth’s climate, somewhere in between the 150 ppm that plants need to grow and the 8000 ppm that humans can easily tolerate, is highly speculative and very uncertain.”
Below 150 ppm CO2, plant life struggles. How is it that the warmers have tried to convince everyone that CO2 is a pollutant?
“The earth has, through natural processes, experienced atmospheric CO2 levels of 7000 ppm, about 17.5 times the current 400 ppm, with fossil fuel burning since 1700, at most contributing about 100 ppm of the present value. I don’t believe science has determined what an ideal level of atmospheric CO2 concentration would be nor at what levels harmful climate effects would occur.”
Factoid—–Doiron notes that when you exhale, you breath contains about 40,000ppm CO2.
So atmospheric CO2 has increased Earth’s green by two times the size of continental US. That is about 6 million square miles (15.3 square km).
Are genetically modified seeds (GMO) part of the surge in the productivity of corn, soybeans and wheat?
