Is Senator Whitehouse Of Rhode Island A Hypocrite?

Invenergy has announced plans to build a $700 million, 900-MW natural gas powered electrical generating plant in Burrillville, Rhode Island (RI). Governor Raimondo hails this as a needed “clean energy generation facility that will reduce electricity prices in RI. Well maybe. RI along with other five other New England states are supplied by ISO-New England, and they all pay a single price for their electricity irrespective of its source.   The Governor adds that it will help “integrate intermittent renewable energy”.

In Invenergy’s applications for permits, according to the Conservation Law Foundation (clf), they want permission to run oil for up to 60 days per year if natural gas is unavailable. Everybody needs backup plans to keep the citizens of those 6 six states supplied reliably.

I think that RI is doing the right thing and I wish them success.

BUT, BUT, WAIT A MINUTE. I believe Sheldon Whitehouse is a US Senator from the state of RI.   Yes, I am right on that.

Isn’t Whitehouse the guy who gives weekly sermons( TIME TO WAKE UP they are called) on the Senate floor about the evils of fossil fuels? I believe he has done this more that 150 times, according to some sources.

Isn’t he the guy that in the December 2015 sermon he tells of his attendance at the Paris UN COP21 where he heard that everyone is unifying by a common goal of reaching an agreement to tackle the crisis of climate change?

And isn’t he the guy that who has been lauded by the warmers for his introduction of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) legislation to “stop corporations and other organizations that have knowingly deceived the American people about the risks of climate change, as a means to forestall America’s response to climate change” according to the “21 scientists letter to President Obama”? And that same letter goes on to tell us why Whitehouse is pursuing this legislation. “If corporations in the fossil fuel industry and their supporters are guilty of the misdeeds that have been documented in books and journal articles, it is imperative that these misdeeds be stopped as soon as possible so that America and the world can get on with the critically important business of finding effective ways to restabilize the Earth’s climate, before even more lasting damage is done.”

I could fill many pages of quotes from the Senator about how we have to stop using fossil fuels. And yet he has no plans at all to stop the building of the new RI plant.

Maybe you can figure out his reasoning when you watch this video”

Perhaps Senator Whitehouse needs to RICO himself.
